
The course is equivalent in size to TWO A-Levels and involves 8 units, of which 6 are mandatory and 3 are external and will count as TWO of your subject options. Internally assessed assignments: To be completed to set deadlines throughout the 2 years. Unit 1: Exploring Business: Learners will gain an overview of the key ingredients for business success, how businesses are organised, how they communicate, the characteristics of the environment in which they operate and how this shapes them and their activities. They will also look at the importance of innovation and enterprise to the success and survival of the businesses with the associated risks and benefits. Unit 4: Managing an Event: Learners work in groups to plan and run a real event which will require them to draw on their understanding of organisation, planning, budgeting, problem solving, communication and achieving defined objectives. Unit 5: International Business: Learners will investigate strategic and operational approaches to business on a global basis and draw together their understanding of the economic environment, external influences on businesses which trade internationally. Unit 8: Recruitment and selection process: Learners will understand how the processes and procedures involved in recruitment and selection meets the needs of the business and comply with current regulations. They will also through role play have an opportunity to take part in selection interviews Unit 27: Work Experience in Business: Learners will investigate different types of work related learning and their benefits and demonstrate what information they will need before starting their placement and explain how the placement can develop key competencies needed for employability such as self-management, team working, problem solving and communication skills. They will be expected to evaluate their performance at work through a reflective journal.
