
Unit 1: Foundations in Psychology For this unit, students learn the four main approaches in Psychology to explain behaviour. This includes: • The Cognitive approach focusing on memory, • The Social approach focusing on prejudice, • The Biological approach focusing on aggression • The behavioural approach focusing phobias. Unit 2: Applications in psychology For this unit, students explore and explain how the approaches and theories from unit one help in the four key fields: clinical psychology, criminal psychology, child psychology and health psychology. Unit 3: Psychology skills (“Issues and Debates”) In the “Issues and Debates” topic, students will explore issue such as gender bias within Psychology. Options chosen at A-Level are Schizophrenia, Relationships and Forensic Psychology.
This course is assessed through 3 exam papers, each 2 hours in length: 1) Foundations in Psychology (35%) 2) Applications of Psychology (35%) 3) Psychological Skills (30%)
