Drama is a thriving part of school life at Ripley with many performances taking places through all year groups. We have participated in National projects, most recently ‘Shakespeare School’s Festival’ and ‘National Theatre Connections’ giving actors the opportunity to perform in a professional theatre. Experiencing a range of styles of live theatre performances is very much encouraged. As with the AQA GCSE, students will study towards 3 components; Study of 2 texts and review of live theatre, creating original drama (devised acting or design) and making theatre (scripted acting or design) As with the GCSE, the course is assessed both internally and externally and is 30% practical and 40% written exam, although the texts for component 1 are explored practically and 30% coursework. A Level theatre is perfect preparation for HE course in Drama and Theatre but also compliments other courses as a second or third option. For those wishing to expand their skills further careers in performance, theatre, TV and film production, law, creative writing, journalism, publishing, promotion and marketing and many other areas associated with the performing arts industry. We have significant experience of supporting students secure prestigious places at specialist schools such as LIPA and the Hammond School. Sixth Form Entry Requirements: 5 Grade 5s at GCSE including Grade 5 in English Language. Please see specific subject requirements. If not Studied GCSE Drama an audition is required.
