As a member of our debating enhancement programme you will have the opportunity to take part in both professionally structured and informal debates within the classroom. This will range from the British Parliamentary style of debating seen at universities, debating as a lawyer at mock court trial hearings or to debating as a politician for UN resolution drafts. We will first start with how to become more confident in expressing our views and throughout the year you will develop your public speaking skillset to be able to finish the programme as an articulate and confident debater. The topics that will be discussed include politics & current affairs, philosophy, and law. • What skills will I gain? - Argue better. You will learn how to best articulate your views as well as gain a better understanding into how people think and how to respond to conflicting views. - Think better. You will learn how to think on your feet and structure your thoughts and opinions so that you can clearly get your message across. - Adaptability. You may not always agree with a viewpoint you have to argue for and debating allows for you to see things from the ‘other side’. - Teamwork, consideration of others, knowledge on broader issues, and more.
