
The A-level course focuses on Equipping students with design skills for the future - Students will be able to recognise design needs and develop an understanding of how current global issues, including integrating technology, impacts on today’s world. It Encourages creativity and innovation, and students will build confidence to innovate and produce creative design solutions as they develop their own design brief with a client/end user. Students will learn specific subject knowledge in relation to design and manufacture. They will develop their modelling skills both in the workshop and through 2D and 3D CAD modelling; they will develop presentation skills and graphic communication. They will implement and demonstrate their knowledge and skills by designing and making marketable products.
To study Product design you will need a minimum of a grade 6 in GCSE Product Design. It is possible to study it as a new subject, to do so you would need to achieve at least a grade 6 in English Language and Mathematics and it is recommended that you also have a Grade 6 in any Science subject, which could include Computer Science.
This course is 50% theory and 50% NEA (course work) 15% of the theory exam is based on mathematical content.
