Course summary

Chemistry A – a content-led approach. A flexible approach where the specification is divided into topics, each covering different key concepts of chemistry. Teaching of practical skills is integrated with the theoretical topics and they’re assessed through written papers and a practical endorsement. Students will study a range of topics: Year 1 focuses on aspects of the periodic table as well as an introduction to organic Chemistry. In Year 2 students will study Physical Chemistry and transition elements as well as diving deeper into Organic Chemistry analysis.

Entry requirements

To study Chemistry you would need to achieve at least a grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry or 7-7 in Combined Science.

How you'll be assessed

3 Papers: Paper 1 (2h15m) assesses modules 1, 2, 3 & 5 [37%]; Paper 2 (2h15m) assesses modules 1, 2, 4 & 6 [37%]; Paper 3 (1h30m) assesses all modules [26%]. There is also a non-examined practical component which is assessed within lessons and leads to a practical endorsement.
