The course divides into four parts: The Greek states and Persia 492-409 BC; Sparta; The Roman Republic; the early Emperors. The course looks at what the original artefacts and writings can tell us about these periods, what the personalities did; how far geo-political considerations determined events.
To study Ancient History as a new subject you would need to achieve at least a grade 6 in English Language and English Literature.
Two papers, each of 2 hours 30 minutes, partly by essay, partly by discussion of evidence.
