At Moor Park Sixth Form, we study AQA English Literature A. Assessed through a combination of final exams (80%) and self-directed coursework (20%), this two-year linear course applies an historicist approach to the study of literature. The historicist approach examines the relationship between time and literature. - Paper 1 is a diachronic study (comparing literature across time along the theme of love). For this paper, you will study a Shakespearean text, a twentieth century novel and a series of pre-1900 poems. There is also an unseen poetry comparison. - Paper 2 is a synchronic study of literature since 1945 (studying texts from the same historical period with different themes). For this paper, we study modern prose, poetry and drama. As in the first paper, there is an unseen element – prose. - The NEA (non-exam assessment) is a diachronic comparative essay. In this section of the course, you get the chance to design your own question and respond to a text of your choice.
Final exams (80%) and self-directed coursework (20%).
