Course summary

Performing Arts students are dynamic, creative, outgoing and confident people. The Extended Certificate will prepare students for the modern demands of the acting industry, enabling them to be flexible and adaptive. Learning how to develop acting techniques and hone their performance skills. 2 YEAR OVERVIEW Mandatory Units: • Prepare to work in the performing arts sector • Proposal for a commissioning brief • Influential performance practice • Combined Arts Optional Units • Improvisation • Performing repertoire You will take five units made up of four mandatory and an optional unit Performance and coursework assessed Internal and External examinations Skills that will be developed These units will give you an understanding of the performing arts in wider contexts, including the way the sector works, job roles, progression opportunities, how to build strategies for sustaining a freelance career, and how to plan and develop projects. You will study the work of performing arts practitioners and learn how to demonstrate practical ideas for performance. You will also develop transferable skills such as planning, communication and adaptability. Post 18 opportunities This Performing Arts course can lead to a career in journalism, teaching, television broadcasting, the radio and music industry, social work and the theatre profession both as a performer and technician. Destinations of students who studied Drama: Delamare Academy – Make Up and Special Effects University of Surrey – Theatre and Performance Studies Tiffany Theatre College – Studying Dance Bath Spa University – Acting and Technical Theatre Practice University of Nottingham – Law Expenses Students may be required to purchase set texts or subject related books. During the course there are regular trips to the theatre which will incur costs, but we will support students with financial difficulties.
