Course summary

The Extended Certificate qualification in Health & Social Care uses a combination of assessment styles to give students confidence that they can apply their knowledge to their studies. The skills developed support progression into higher education and a career in Health and Social Care. The units for the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care are as follows: Unit 1 – Human Lifespan Development Learners will cover physical, intellectual, emotional and social development across the human lifespan, and the factors affecting development and effects of ageing. Unit 2 – Working in Health & Social Care Learners explore what it is like to work in the health and social care sector, including the roles and responsibilities of workers and organisations. Unit 5 – Meeting Individual Care & Support Needs Learners focus on the principles and practicalities that underpin meeting individuals’ care and support needs, which are the foundation of all the care disciplines. Unit 10 – Sociological Perspectives Learners explore the role sociological perspectives have in the delivery of health and social care services and gain understanding of the demographics of our society.
