This enables the Extended National Diploma to be chosen* This course is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a broad introduction to the health and social care sector. It is suitable for students who are interested in careers within health, social care, early years and education sectors. There are 13 units of work: Unit 3: Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care Unit 6: Work Experience in Health and Social Care Plus, five optional units selected from: Sociological Perspectives, Psychological Perspectives, Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs, Physiological disorders, Infection Prevention and Control, Nutritional Health (depending on numbers and staffing) Plus, six units undertaken in Single and Double Award lessons. Students must be competent at organising work files and meeting deadlines. Students can progress to a wide range of career and higher education opportunities including degree courses in nursing, midwifery, teacher training and social work when taken with compatible subjects. Minimum five GCSE passes (grades 4 or 5) including English Language and Maths. Students must also meet subject specific minimum entry requirements (shown below). Note: You must also choose the Single and Double award courses to complete your selection.
Unit 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be assessed by an externally marked exam. All other units by either by internally or externally marked coursework.
