Extended Project Qualification QAN code 60095349 IF YOU CHOOSE EPQ AT THIS STAGE IT IS AN EXPRESSION OF INTEREST ONLY. ENROLMENT FOR THIS COURSE DOES NOT TAKE PLACE UNTIL SEPTEMBER. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a stand-alone qualification designed to extend and develop your skills in independent research and project management. We offer a flexible programme, delivered as a combination of small group and one-one university style tutorials, alongside guided independent study on Teams, to equip you with the advanced skills needed to undertake a Research programme unique to you. The EPQ requires you to carry out research on a topic of your choice that is not covered by your other qualifications. You then use this research to produce a written report and, in the case of practical projects, an artefact or a production. Inspiration can be taken from something studied in class or something completely unrelated to your studies. Your EPQ will be overseen by a project supervisor, usually a teacher who is not a specialist in your chosen EPQ topic. Your supervisor will guide you through the process; they do not guide the content or unduly influence the outcome of your research. You may receive specific advice and support from a technical supervisor, for example to undertake a practical experiment in a lab. However, the work completed must be based on your own research and ideas. LRC staff deliver taught skills tutorials and the guided independent study programme and are on hand throughout your project to help with your research. Typically, you will start the skills programme before Christmas in Year 12 and submit your project in November or May of Year 13. The taught skills programme takes around 30 hours. The time spent on your research and documentation will depend on your topic. The EPQ is awarded UCAS points worth half an A Level. It is recognised by universities and employers; some leading universities make alternative offers to students undertaking an EPQ.
Minimum five GCSE passes (grades 4 or 5) including English Language and Maths. Students must also meet subject specific minimum entry requirements (shown below). Note - The EPQ is studied in addition to your normal timetable. Students must have a desire to extend an area of study/interests through a research-based project.
