BTEC National Extended Certificate in Business QAN Code 60171571 Equivalent to 1 A Level This qualification is for students who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education or training and ultimately to employment in the business sector. The qualification aims to provide a coherent introduction to study of the business sector. The learning programme covers business environments, finance, marketing, human resources, accounting, marketing and law. • Unit 1 – Exploring Business (Coursework) • Unit 2 – Developing a marketing campaign (Exam) • Unit 3 – Personal and Business Finance (Exam) • Unit 8 – Recruitment & Selection (Coursework) The qualification will support entry to many higher education courses, depending on the other qualifications learners have taken. The qualification can also support progression to employment directly, or via an Apprenticeship. There are opportunities during this course to develop employability skills in: • cognitive and problem-solving skills: use critical thinking, approach non-routine problems applying expert and creative solutions, use systems and technology • interpersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing • intrapersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development, self-presentation. This course also provides transferable knowledge and skills that prepare student for progression to university which include: • the ability to learn independently • the ability to research actively and methodically • being able to give presentations and being active group members. • effective writing • analytical skills • creative development preparation for assessment methods used in degrees. Minimum five GCSE passes (grades 4 or 5) including English Language and Maths. Students must also meet subject specific minimum entry requirements (shown below).
The course is assessed through coursework, controlled assessment and an externally assessed unit. An overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* can be awarded.
