Course summary
BTEC National Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care QAN code 60171972/PA1 This course is equivalent to one A Level and provides a Level 3 introduction to the health and social care sector. It is suitable for students who are interested in careers within health, social care, early years and education sectors. There are four units of work: Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs Plus an optional unit selected from: Sociological Perspectives, Psychological Perspectives, Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs, Physiological disorders (depending on numbers and staffing). Pupils initially opt for the subject rather than a specific qualification. In Year 13 the programme routes widen to offer different sizes of qualification depending on attainment, achievement and progress in Year 12. Students must be competent at organising work files and meeting deadlines Students can progress to a wide range of career and higher education opportunities including degree courses in nursing, midwifery, teacher training and social work when taken with compatible subjects.
