Course summary

A Level Art, Craft & Design QAN Code: 60144567/3510 The main purpose of this course is to develop your ability to appreciate and respond to the visual world in an independent and creative way. You will build upon skills from your GCSE course, including new media techniques and methods of working. You must be prepared to work hard and actively participate. You will also be required to complete sketchbook work to support each coursework element. You will be asked to respond to a subject/theme and create a personal response that explores observations, critical and contextual research, development and a final outcome. Taught as a vertical group with Year 13. Component 1: A personal investigation into a subject of your choice that covers 4 main objectives and in Year 13 requires a written element of a 1,000 words to support the practical work. Includes: observational drawing, critical studies, development and end product. This component requires much more independence, innovation and decision making in order to achieve a successful personal and written response. Component 2: Externally set assignment. Future Opportunities - Art students follow a variety of diverse paths through Foundation and other Further and Higher Education courses. A Foundation course is a pre-degree qualification that most universities accept as entry for graduate level. The subject is open to any pupil who wants to study a creative subject.
