Course summary
The course is a study of Greek and Roman civilization and literature in translation. Throughout time, authors, composers and artists of all nationalities have turned to the ancient world for themes for their works. It therefore combines well with other Arts subjects such as Music, Art, History, Religious Studies, Philosophy, and Languages. Students of English Literature and Drama always find the subject an invaluable aid to their understanding of the classical themes and references encountered in their courses. It is a fascinating subject in its own right and the course provides the opportunity to draw comparisons between the ancient culture and the modern world. Students are encouraged to attend Classics Days and lectures at Newcastle University as well as theatre productions.
