What will I study during the course? ● The course consists of 7 core units for the completed qualification. ● Each unit will focus on an area of Children’s Play, Learning, Development and Care – for example, Unit 1 will focus on Child Development from conception to 7 years. ● This is a large area of study with many facets e.g. ways in which children gain skills and abilities, the development of language and thinking etc. Who is the course aimed at? ● Both male and female students who are motivated to learn and engage in new opportunities. ● Students who enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to their own development and experience. ● Students who would like to work with young children. ● Students who have an interest in how we develop as individuals. ● Students who want to study a course that is active and enjoyable. ● Students who are hardworking and well-organised. ● Male and female students who are willing to apply what they have learnt in a practical way, for example, seeking opportunities to ask ‘real’ professionals and practitioners questions surrounding their working life.
Five Grade 4 or above at GCSE or equivalent. It is not necessary to have studied this subject previously.
● A compulsory placement equating to 250 hours with three different age ranges (to be carried out in free periods). ● All units are internally assessed assignments (coursework known as portfolio assessment). ● You will complete an effective practice study which is externally set and marked in Year 13.
