Students will study technological and social change, looking at the multicultural nature of Hispanic society. They will study highlights of Hispanic artistic culture, including a focus on Spanish regional identity and the cultural heritage of past civilisations. They will learn about aspects of the diverse political landscape of the Hispanic world. Students will explore the influence of the past on present-day Hispanic communities. Throughout their studies, they will learn the language in the context of Hispanic countries and issues and influences which have shaped them. Students will study texts and film and will have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice. Topics include: ● Aspects of Hispanic society: Modern and traditional values, Cyberspace, Equal rights. ● Multiculturalism in Hispanic society: Immigration, Racism, Integration. ● Artistic culture in the Hispanic world: Modern-day idols, Spanish regional identity, Cultural heritage. ● Aspects of political life in the Hispanic world: Today’s youth - tomorrow’s citizens, Monarchies and dictatorships, Popular movements.
Five grade 4 or above at GCSE or equivalent. At least a Grade 5 in Spanish.
At A Level, students sit three papers: Paper 1: Listening, reading, and writing (100 marks: 50% of A-Level) You will be assessed on: ● Aspects of Hispanic society ● Artistic culture in the Hispanic world ● Multiculturalism in Hispanic society ● Aspects of political life in Hispanic society ● Grammar This written exam is 2½ hours long and includes listening and reading comprehension, translation into English, and translation into Spanish. Paper 2: Writing (80 marks: 20% of A-Level) You will be assessed on: ● One text and one film, or two texts from the AQA set list. ● Grammar This written exam is 2 hours long and includes two essays. Paper 3: Speaking assessing (60 marks: 30% of A-Level) You will be assessed on: ● Individual research project ● One of four sub-themes: ● Aspects of Hispanic society ● Artistic culture in the Hispanic world ● Multiculturalism in Hispanic society ● Aspects of political life in Hispanic society This oral exam is 21-23 minutes long (including 5 minutes preparation time).
