Course summary

A level of Maths is studied over Year 12 and Year 13 consisting of a varied range of core and applied mathematical skills. Students are expected to both demonstrate knowledge and skills and apply them using mathematical thinking and understanding. Problem-solving using these skills is key. Topic Content: Core Proof Algebra and Functions Coordinate Geometry Sequence and Series Trigonometry Exponentials and Logarithm Differentiation Integration Numerical Methods Vectors Statistics: Statistical Sampling Data Presentation and interpretation Probability Statistical Distributions Statistical Hypothesis Testing Mechanics: Quantities and Units in Mechanics Kinematics Forces and Newton’s Law Moments

Entry requirements

Five Grade 4 or above at GCSE or equivalent, including Grade 7 or above in Maths.

How you'll be assessed

All exams will be taken at the end of Year 13 Paper 1 - 2 hours - All core content. Paper 2 - 2 hours - 50% core content and 50% mechanics content. Paper 3 - 2 hours - 50% core content and 50% statistics content. Regular in-class assessments are completed throughout the 2 years of study. Students are expected to do a substantial amount of revision and practice as independent study in their time outside of the classroom. Support is available for students needing additional help, both as 1 to 1 with their subject teacher and as formal revision classes held after school and/or at lunch times during exam season.
