How is this course organized? This is a two-year course made up of 360 guided learning hours. It is a Level 3 course which is the equivalent of one A Level. You will study 5 units, 2 units in Year 12, and 3 in Year 13. There are 3 mandatory units and 2 optional. The extended certificate provides a broad basis of study for the sport sector. The course can lead to Higher Education as part of a program of study, which includes other vocational or general subjects such as other Cambridge Technicals, BTEC Nationals or A Levels. In Year 12 you will study: Unit 1 - Body Systems and the effects of physical activity. Unit 2 - Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership In Year 13 you will potentially study three of the following: Unit 3 - Sports Organisation and Development (Compulsory) (60GLH) Unit 17 - Sports injuries and rehabilitation Unit 18 - Practical skills in sport and physical activities
You should meet the school requirements of five Grade 4’s or above at GCSE or equivalent, including English Language. Students need to have achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE PE or Merit or above in Cambridge Nationals. Students who have not studied GCSE PE or Sport, but would like to take this course, will be considered on an individual basis.
In Year 12 you will study: Unit 1 - Body Systems and the effects of physical activity. This unit is an externally assessed examination. Unit 2 - Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership This unit is internally assessed and externally moderated by OCR. In Year 13 you will potentially study three of the following: Unit 3 - Sports Organisation and Development (Compulsory) (60GLH) This unit is an externally assessed examination. Unit 17 - Sports injuries and rehabilitation This unit is internally assessed and externally moderated by OCR. Unit 18 - Practical skills in sport and physical activities This unit is internally assessed and externally moderated by OCR.
