Psychology is the science of the brain and behaviour. At A Level, students will engage with contemporary and classic research on a wide variety of psychological phenomena. Students will study the processes behind social influence to answer questions about why humans obey unjust orders or conform to social norms. They will explore the science of memory to answer questions such as why annoying songs get stuck in our heads but sometimes we forgot why we came into a room. The will delve deep into the nature of childhood mental illness to answer questions about what is normality and what causes a delusion. Alongside this, there is a strong scientific element on the structure of the brain, the importance of early attachments, different approaches to studying behaviour, and the strengths and weaknesses of social scientific research methods.
