If so, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) could fulfill that wish. The EPQ is an opportunity for you to take the lead on developing your independent research and study skills while researching a topic that you’re passionate about. You’ll learn report-writing and presentation skills, conduct research analyze and evaluate your findings, and complete your project with either a written report or by creating an artifact. This student-led qualification puts you in charge and can enhance performance in your A-level subjects and beyond into higher education and the workplace. Worth half an A-level and counting towards UCAS points, having an EPQ will help you to stand out from the crowd in university applications, many universities will give lower A-level offers to students with an EPQ. Research has shown that EPQ students have an increased chance of achieving an A*–B at A-level, and are more likely to obtain a 1st or 2:1 at university. Taught Skills Managing Projects: Creating aims, objectives, and questions, creating project proposals, time management, progress reporting, self-appraisal, and improvement. Research: Selecting and evaluating sources, conducting literature reviews, collecting primary and secondary data, using libraries and online resources, Harvard Referencing, and academic writing. Open to all Sixth Form Students, you will ‘learn how to learn’ which makes it suitable for all, but does require time, dedication, and a desire to learn how to use your increased independence.
● 30 hours in-class taught content, and 90 hours of independent study time. ● You will produce a 5000 word Report on a subject of your choice, OR create an ‘artifact’ based on your own interest and research. ● You will also produce a Production Log describing how you planned, designed, monitored, adapted, and changed your plans to produce the Report or Artefact. ● You will present a Presentation summarising your findings and documenting and evaluating the learning process you went through.
