Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour. It is all about how and why people think, feel and behave in the way that they do. You will learn about a variety of different topics, including psychopathology (mental illness), biopsychology, attachment, research methods, memory, eating behaviour, cognitive development and addiction. You will discover the scientific process of conducting psychological investigations and have the opportunity to carry out your own psychological research. The A Level consists of three examination papers. At least 10% of the marks in assessment will require the use of mathematical skills. There is also a high proportion of biological content within psychology. You will learn about psychological theory and research studies and develop skills valued by Higher Education and employers, such as critical analysis, independent thinking and research skills. You will learn about the different approaches in psychology, including biological, cognitive, and behaviourist perspectives. You will learn through a variety of teaching methods, including discussions, video footage of psychological experiments, applying your knowledge to case studies, role plays, interactive games, independent research, peer teaching and debates.

Assessment is through final examination at the end of the course. There will be 3 exam papers each of 2 hours duration. Exams will comprise multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions.
