A-level Biology builds on the concepts and investigation skills developed in the GCSE and it is particularly suitable for students who have the skills and knowledge associated with a GCSE Biology course or equivalent.

Entry requirements

Grade 7 or above in Biology or grade 7-6 or above in Combined Science plus additional summer work to catch up missed Biology content). A grade 6 in Maths is also required.

How you'll be assessed

Paper 1 - Any content from topics 1–4, including relevant practical skills. Written exam: 2 hours, 91 marks - 35% of A-level Paper 2 - Any content from topics 5–8, including relevant practical skills. Written exam: 2 hours 91 marks - 35% of A-level Paper 3 - Any content from topics 1–8, including relevant practical skills. Written exam: 2 hours 78 marks - 30% of A-Level The accessible assessments allow students of various abilities to shine. Practical skills gained throughout the course via Core Practical completion are assessed within the examinations. There is a choice of two essay questions in the final examination paper, giving students more opportunities to bring together knowledge of the whole specification.
