Course summary

Physics is a fundamental science subject and the key to understanding the world around us and the world beyond us. Physics is the study of matter, energy, force and motion, which can challenge our imagination and lead to world-changing discoveries such as lasers and computers. The course tutor is a professional physicist with a wealth of specialist knowledge and experience. As an A Level Physics student you can expect to learn valuable, transferable skills such as problem solving and analysis. You will develop your understanding of standard laboratory experimental techniques and follow the renowned 'Advancing Physics' programme developed by the Gatsby Foundation and Institute of Physics. This course is assessed by examination scheduled for May/June. A separate practical endorsement qualification is assessed in lessons throughout the two years.

Entry requirements

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including: • English Language (Grade 4) • Maths (Grade 6) • Double Science (Grade 6/6) or Physics (Grade 6) or Triple Science (6/6/5) • Plus, one or two other GCSEs at grade 4 if you only have GCSEs in Physics or Double Science. Following your application you will normally be offered a place subject to achieving the entry requirements and attending a welcome taster.

How you'll be assessed

This course is assessed primarily by examination scheduled for May/June at the end of the second year with some additional practical assessments.
