Course summary

Over the duration of this course you will learn the fundamentals of science as well as scientific investigations, scientific practical techniques, medical physics and working in the science industry. Units will focus on practical activities. You will also learn about forensic analysis and laboratory techniques. The first year of study completes a 90-credit Diploma. The second year extends and deepens the specialist work-related focus from the first year of study, to lead to the Extended Diploma. The full Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels. • Forensic evidence • Collection and analysis • Forensic fire investigation • Independent research project compulsory.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 in English language, grade 4 in maths, plus grade 4/4 in double science or grade 4/4/4 in triple science. If you have 4/4 in double science, you will also need one other GCSE at grade 4. If you are a young person who is not currently studying a traditional GCSE programme, we will consider alternative qualifications such as functional skills and vocational qualifications.
