Course summary

On this English course you will learn to analyze, compare and understand a variety of literary texts from all genres: poetry, drama and prose. A wide range of literary eras are represented on the course, which focuses on a balance of modern and classic texts. Students study canonical works such as Hamlet and A Doll's House along with lesser-known texts from Africa and America. Course Units: Unit 01: Drama and Poetry pre-1900 Unit 02: Comparative and Contextual Study Unit 03: Literature Post-1900 Course Can Lead To: A level English courses form excellent preparation for any one of the wide variety of English courses available in higher education. English literature in particular is considered a ‘facilitating subject’ by Russell Group universities. English is useful for career paths including journalism, law, publishing, the civil service, politics and teaching. Course Highlights: - Frequent theatre trips to see modern productions of set texts and in-college workshops with theatre critic from The Times and visiting poets. - Opportunity to be published in the college creative writing anthology

Entry requirements

To qualify to study 3 A level/ Applied subjects, you will need to achieve 6 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, preferably including English Language or Math's at grade 4 or above. In addition/ within those 6 GCSEs, for this subject you will need to achieve Grade 5 in English Language and Grade 5 English Literature.

How you'll be assessed

This A level will be assessed by two examinations and a coursework folder of investigative and analytical work.
