Since this course is a Level 3 National Certificate, it is a two-year course that is equivalent to one A-Level. This BTEC will provide you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the field of Information Technology. You will explore the relationship between hardware and software that form IT systems, management and processing of data to support business, and using IT to communicate/share information. This BTEC will allow you to progress into Higher Education in an IT-based subject or a range of non-IT-based subject areas, depending on your other chosen subjects.
A minimum of 6 grade 4s, including a grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language, is required. GCSE Maths must also be at grade 3 as a minimum. If GCSE Maths is at a grade 3, you would have to resit it. A minimum of a grade 4 in GCSE ICT (or equivalent vocational qualification) is also required.
This two-year course contains four units. One unit is assessed through an exam, one through externally set/marked tasks, and the other two through internally set/marked assignments. Overall, there are three mandatory units and one optional unit. The mandatory units are Information Technology Systems, Creating Systems to Manage Information, and Using Social Media in Business. The optional unit is Website Development.
