Photography has become an essential part of how we communicate and comprehend the world around us. This course aims to provide students with opportunities to acquire and develop a wide range of traditional and contemporary technical skills within photography. Alongside this, students will develop and conceptualise an understanding of wider theory and creative contexts while implementing their conceptualisation into the production and refinement of their individual work. Units of work will cover experimental printing processes, darkroom techniques and digital processes using industry-standard programs. Students studying this specialism will be introduced to a variety of photographic techniques, processes and contexts. The techniques and processes covered will include: Documentary Photography Fashion Photography Experimental Imagery Editorial Photography Photographic Installation Moving Image (Video, Film, Animation)
A minimum of 6 grade 4s, including a grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language, is required. GCSE Maths must also be at a grade 3 as a minimum. If GCSE Maths is at a grade 3, you would have to resit it. A grade 4 in a GCSE Art-based subject is also required. If you would like to undertake this subject but did not do an Art-based subject at GCSE, you can also apply to study with a high-quality portfolio. Please photograph your portfolio and email it to portfolio@jcc.ac.uk where our Art Department will assess your work to see if it can replace the requirement for a GCSE Art-based subject at a grade 4.
The A-Level and second year of this course is made up of two separate components. Component 1 is a Personal Investigation into a selected area of photography design practice, while Component 2 is an Externally Set Task. All coursework in this A-Level is marked internally and moderated externally.
