Course summary

This is a very interesting and engaging course that will delve into a multitude of exciting topics, including aspects of English/international history, politics, and legal, social, and economic developments from the 17th to the 20th century. During this AS/A-Level course, you will explore why traditional political systems, such as the monarchy, were challenged by new ideas and revolutionary movements. You will look at how said events helped create a more democratic system of government, which includes the dictatorships and democracy in Germany and England. This course will also delve into how the world we all live in today has been shaped by wars and international tensions, such as the English Civil Wars, the Second World War, and the Cold War. Additionally, you will investigate change and continuity in political systems, discovering the differences between democracy and dictatorships. A central theme of this course will be power, specifically, how it has been shared between people, governments, and leaders. This A-Level can also help you access further historical studies or support your progression onto an Archaeology or Anthropology degree. Furthermore, many historians have been known to progress into legal professions. History students have regularly found employment in museums and archives as well as a multitude of other diverse fields, such as the entertainment industry, the political field, and public relations.
