Film studies reframes our understanding of film. Students will study the construction of a variety film texts and how meaning is produced through specific focus on cinematpgraphy sound editing mise-en-scene and performance. For the exam component of the course there will be an emphasis placed on the financial significance of film in the UK and across the globe through an in-depth study of the film industry. Alongside this students will compare both UK and US films in terms of the messages and values represented in the specific case studies. The coursework consists of a written analysis of a film and a creative product of the students' choosing. Hours of Lessons per Week : 4.3 Indicative Group Size : 20
Anyone who is interested in working in the media or who wishes to study an arts course to degree level. You should enjoy reading widely and have an analytical critical mind because this course is academically rigorous. You will need six full GCSEs at grades A* to C including English Language.
There are 2 modules at AS in the fist year and 2 more in year 2. The course is 40% coursework and 60% exam. The coursework provides the opportunity to explore film as a storytelling medium with students completing a portfolio of analysis and their own creative work. The examination module focuses around Hollywood & British cinema with comparative analysis of case study texts. There is also a question relating to the film industry in relation to the case studies covered in class.
