Course summary

The theatre is exciting and ever-changing, able to move audiences to the extremities of all emotion. In Theatre Studies, you will master the skills needed to be part of this thrilling world, developing confidence and resilience, and the power to change minds and hearts. Théâtre Studies will allow you to critically appreciate a range of practitioners and learn how these revolutionaries paved the way for the theatre we know and love today. You will learn to work collaboratively and creatively; this subject will prepare you for the world of work in any discipline. • In Unit 1, students will work in groups to create their own original piece of theatre in the style of one practitioner and one dramatic text. They will produce a coursework document, analyzing their creative choices. • In Unit 2, students perform two scripted extract of a published play, one as a larger ensemble and the second as a monologue or duologue, performing their pieces to a visiting examiner. • In Unit 3, students will critically examine two published play texts, developing their critical appreciation of how texts are performed. Students will analyze a live theatre performance in this unit. Those whom have studied Drama & Theatre are well-suited to careers in the performing arts, English, project management and public speaking. Many students have found Drama &Theatre invaluable in preparing them for a career in law, citing the development of their vocal skills as key to presenting arguments in court. This course prepares students for careers in education, the creative industries and events management, due to collaborative nature of the course, as well as further academic study.

Entry requirements

• 6 Strong Passes or 7 Standard Passes including: • 5 in Drama and • 6 in English Literature and • 6 in English Language
