Drama and Theatre Studies
Course summary
Students will gain an understanding of theatre and drama and learn to interpret them as an actor and director. They will analyse a variety of plays and playwrights, both contemporary and historical. Students will learn to develop their personal acting and directing skills, specific texts for performance, and offer written analysis of works set by the exam board and teacher. During the course, students must attend several live theatre performances and masterclasses to understand a range of professional styles. Year 12: Component 1: Devising (NEA), submitted as a portfolio. Students devise an original performance piece, using an extract from a performance text. There are performer or designer routes available. Component 3 (Theatre Makers in Practice) section C: Interpreting a Performance Text - students answer one extended response question from a choice of two, based on an unseen named section from their chosen performance text.
