It allows you to travel back in time and forward into the future, share the experiences of others, take on new perspectives, explore ideas, beliefs and values, challenge or discover your own and learn the literary skills to express yourself in original and creative ways. The analytical, interpretative and discursive skills you develop by studying literature will also prove excellent preparation for university. A Level English Literature is a highly regarded qualification by universities.
- 6 in English Literature - 6 in English Language - Achieving 6 grade 4s (or equivalent) including English Language. - Please note, if you studied Foundation Maths or Sciences at GCSE you will not be able to apply to study A Level Maths or A Level Sciences respectively as GCSE Foundation grades are capped at grade 5.
Literary Genres – Aspects of Tragedy (Paper 1) Study of three tragedy texts; Shakespeare’s Othello, Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman and Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles • Texts and Genres – Elements of Crime (Paper 2) Study of three crime texts; Kate Atkinson’s When Will There Be Good News, Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and a selection of Crime Poetry • Non Exam Assessment – Theory and Independence Students choose two texts to study (one novel and a collection of poetry) informed by a study of the Critical Anthology
