Course summary
AIM OF THE COURSE - Intellectual, imaginative, creative and intuitive powers. - Investigate, analytical, experimental, practical, technical and expressive skills, aesthetic understanding and critical judgement. - An understanding of the interrelationships between art, craft and design and an awareness of the contexts in which they operate. - Knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary society and in other times and cultures. Students may use a variety of media, including painting, printmaking and 3D work. Sketchbooks are an integral part of their coursework and students will be expected to record, research and develop ideas in visual and written form. A LEVEL SUMMARY - This is a two-year course. - In the first year; students will be expected to work through a thematic project and produce a sketchbook. Students will not sit an exam. - In the second year; students will continue their own personal response and produce a final piece of work. They will also be expected to write an essay on their chosen theme. - In February students will be given an exam paper and they will then begin their preparatory work. The final piece will be produced in a 15-hour exam in the summer term.
