Course summary

AIM OF THE COURSE - Intellectual, imaginative, creative and intuitive powers. - Investigate, analytical, experimental, practical, technical and expressive skills, aesthetic understanding and critical judgement. - An understanding of the interrelationships between art, craft and design and an awareness of the contexts in which they operate. - Knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary society and in other times and cultures. Students may use a variety of media, including painting, printmaking and 3D work. Sketchbooks are an integral part of their coursework and students will be expected to record, research and develop ideas in visual and written form. A LEVEL SUMMARY - This is a two-year course. - In the first year; students will be expected to work through a thematic project and produce a sketchbook. Students will not sit an exam. - In the second year; students will continue their own personal response and produce a final piece of work. They will also be expected to write an essay on their chosen theme. - In February students will be given an exam paper and they will then begin their preparatory work. The final piece will be produced in a 15-hour exam in the summer term.

Entry requirements

You should have achieved an Average Point Score across all your GCSE subjects of 4+ 4+. It is desirable but not essential to have studied Art and Design at GCSE to Grade 6.

AO1 Develop ideas through sustained investigations and exploration, selecting and using materials, processes and resources, identifying and interpreting relationships and analysing methods and outcomes. 25% AO2 Experiment with and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining their ideas as their work develops. 25% AO3 Record observations, experiences, ideas, information and insight in visual and other forms, appropriate to intentions. 25% AO4 Present a personal, coherent and informed response, realising intentions, and articulating and explaining connections with the work of others. 25%
