Over the two years, the course will cover the following modules: Development of practical skills Foundations in Biology Exchange and Transport Biodiversity, evolution and disease Communications, homeostatis and energy Genetics, evolution and ecosystems. Studying Biology is a key requirement or good stepping stone for many medical-based degree courses such as Physiotherapy, Dentistry and Medicine. Biology can be very useful in other areas such as Environmental Science, Sports Science and Sports and Leisure Management.
Students who have studied separate Science GCSEs are expected to have achieved a minimum of a grade 7 in Biology. Students who have studied GCSE Combined Science are expected to have achieved a minimum of a grade 7 in Combined Science. In addition you will need a grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
The qualification will be examined at the end of Year 13 covering 3 exam papers.
