Course summary
This course is linear and will take two years to complete. At the end of your second year, you will sit your final assessments and submit the coursework. Component One: Drama Students study one Shakespeare play and one other drama from the genre of tragedy (‘Othello’ and ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’). Component Two: Prose Students will read two prose texts on a chosen theme and make analyse so that clear comparisons and points of contrast are identified (Kazuro Ishiguro’s ‘Never Let Me Go’ and ‘Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’). Component Three: Poetry Students will study a selection of post-2000 poetry (the anthology is provided) plus a specified range from a specific literary period (The Romantic period). Students will be well grounded with an A Level in English Literature and it opens up many avenues in both Higher Education and careers. The qualification provides an excellent foundation for students intending to pursue careers across a number of sectors, including: journalism, media, advertising, public relations, government and Human Resources.

Assessment
Component One: Drama (both texts): Written examination of 2 hours and 15 minutes. Students may have access to clean copies of their selected texts. Component Two: Prose (a comparative essay): Written examination of 1 hour. Students may have access to clean copies of their selected texts. Component Three: Poetry (two questions, one on each poetry collection): Written examination of 2 hours and 15 minutes. Students may have access to clean copies of their selected texts.
