Course summary

Chemistry is all around us and an understanding of the subject can help to answer many simple questions about everyday life. Chemistry is connected to the physical sciences, like Maths and Physics as well as applied sciences such as Biology, Medicine and Engineering. It is also partners well with other subjects such as Geography and Art. A Level Chemistry is a very desirable trait and a highly respected qualification to have in academic circles. In the first year of the course, you will build on your knowledge from GCSE but also develop a clear foundational introduction to this higher-level study. You will learn about physical, inorganic and organic chemistry as well as undertaking a series of practical sessions. During year 2 of the course, you will study the subject in more depth covering topics such as thermodynamics, rate equations, aromatic chemistry, medicine and protein synthesis. There will be further opportunity to develop your practical skills and learn how to problem solve and interpret data through practical work.
