This course overall focuses on the design and implementation of an organisation’s IT software infrastructure together with the activities and roles that are carried out in the workplace, such as selecting hardware and software to meet client’s needs, and learning how to build, create, design, upgrade or install computer systems and mobile apps that are safe and secure. This course will additionally focus on understanding and creating applications for hardware and mobile devices. You will be asked to consider how Mobile apps can be used to support businesses and explain the benefits and drawbacks of these technologies. You will be designing and working with Android Studio to produce your own ideas and solutions to organisation needs. You will understand the social, commercial and legal implications when using technologies and be able to identify future impacts from the application of these new technologies. On all our courses, you will also develop professional, personal and social skills through interaction with peers, stakeholders and clients, as well theoretical knowledge and understanding to underpin these skills. Curriculum units Information Technical Systems Creating Systems to Manage Information Using Social Media in Business Programming Data Modelling Website Development Mobile Apps Development Computer Games Development Students typically progress to our Level 3 Year 2 course, allowing them to gather a deeper understanding of Web Development, App Design, Cyber Security or Application Development. The course will give you a good foundation in computer and app programming that will help you in your journey to secure employment. It will help you add valuable skills to your CV and also give you the tools you will need to find and develop a suitable position. After completing the second year, students can progress on to Higher National Certificate and Diploma courses at the London City Institute of Technology, employment or Degree programmes at University.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 including English and Maths or achieved a Merit on a Level 2 IT course.
The course is assessed by a mixture of internal and external methods. Internally assessed units will be in the form of projects that consist of two to four assignments per unit. Externally assessed units will be examined units. There will be two examined units per year.
