Course summary
This award is a two year A Level qualification. Component 1 The USA in the 19th century, 1803-1890 Component 2 The Early Stuarts and the origins of the English Civil War. 1603-1660 Component 3 The Challenge of German nationalism: 1789-1919 Component 4 Coursework – Napoleon Content Component 1 Includes: Westward Expansion and it’s impact, The destruction of Native American Society, The causes of the American Civil War and the nature and course of the American Civil War. Component 2 Includes: The Kingship of James 1, the growth of discontent with Charles 1 and the causes of the English Civil War. A depth study o the role of Cromwell and his rule. Component 3 Includes: An investigation and study of the development of German nationalism and the Unification of Germany. It will include a study of key figures, Metternich, Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm 11, as well as a thematic approach to the unification of Germany. There are three depth studies across the period with a focus on historians interpretations. Component 4 Includes: An independent study of a feature of Napoleon’s rule 1799 -1815, to be completed in Year 13.
