Course summary
Why does the UK have the most inequality in Western Europe? Why do the working class commit more crime? Why do girls outperform boys in school? Can poorer countries ever become more developed? Sociology is the study of society – sociologists are interested in the social groups within society, such as social class, race, gender and age. Students will learn to answer the questions above and many more. They will explore topics such as Education, Families and Households, Research Methods, Global Development and Crime & Deviance. An A-Level in Sociology requires students to develop critical thinking skills and develop excellent essay writing abilities. Sociology allows students to understand their own identity and their social environment around them. The A Level has provided previous Cardinal Pole students to go onto study degree courses such as Politics, Law, Criminology, International Development Studies and History.
