This award is a two year A Level qualification. Component 1 Personal Investigation (Coursework - 60% of the total qualification) Component 2 Externally Set Assignment (Examination - 40% of the total qualification) Content: Students will work across image and typography, illustration, advertising, layout design, packaging, editorial design, experimental imagery, signage, and abstract approaches. Students will use techniques such as image editing, digital manipulation, layout, presentational and editorial techniques, printing, mark making, collage and construction. Component 1 - Personal Portfolio Includes evidence in developing ideas, exploring media, developing and applying skills, researching, recording, analyzing, reviewing, creating and presenting outcomes from different personal starting points. The portfolio is made up of supportive studies, practical work and a minimum 1000 words personal study (critical written communication). Component 2 - Externally Set Assignment Again as above but the theme is externally set by the exam board. Possible Career Paths: Students have gone on to study and work in many disciplines such as Graphics, Photography, Architecture, Fashion, Advertising, Film Production, Fine Art, History of Art and the Media.
Minimum grade 6 in Art (or related subject such as Graphic Design)
Component 1: Your Personal Investigation will be assessed mainly on your Practical Work (72 marks) and on your Personal Study, an essay of 1000 words minimum (18 marks) which is worth 12% of the total qualification. Component 2: Your Externally Set Assignment (total marks of 72) will be assessed in June 2020. Your preparatory studies will be a creative response to a broad-based theme released in February 2020, concluding with a final response realized in exam conditions over a period of 15 hours.
