Mathematics comprises of the following areas of study:• Pure Mathematics - the study of number, algebra, shape, trigonometry and calculus.• Mechanics - the study of mathematical modelling in mechanics, vectors, kinematics, dynamics and statics.• Statistics - the study of probability and handling data.A Level Mathematics is assessed through three examinations, each one lasting 2 hours. Paper 1 and Paper 2 cover Pure Mathematics whilst Paper 3 covers Statistics and Mechanics. Throughout the course, students will be expected to build upon their knowledge and understanding of the subject at GCSE. They will be encouraged to think logically, solve problems,model real life situations and work independently
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4. Students applying to the 6th Form without GCSEs but with an equivalent qualification must provide confirmation from their most recent educational establishment of courses studied, levels of attainment and equivalent grades with reference to GCSE grades 9 to 1. Additional Requirements: Students will need a Grade 6 or above in Mathematics GCSE.
3 examinations, each lasting 2 hours and counting equally towards the marks for the qualification.
