Sociology is offered at Key Stage 5 at Thomas More and allows the students to study a range of topics within the AQA syllabus. The course is challenging, but highly engaging and successful candidates will have a keen thirst for current affairs and a thirst to understand out complex society.
5 or more GCSE passes (grades 9-5) For A level courses, a level 6 or above is required in the subject to be studied (for example, to be able to study A level History, a 6 or more must be achieved at GCSE) If studying a new A level course (for example Psychology or Sociology) GCSE subjects such as English Maths and Science at level 6 may be required. Please note that English and Maths GCSE must be taken if a level 4 has not been achieved.
The exams will measure how students have achieved the following assessment objectives. AO1: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of: - sociological theories, concepts and evidence - sociological research methods AO2: Apply sociological theories, concepts, evidence and research methods to a range of issues AO3: Analyse and evaluate sociological theories, concepts, evidence and research methods in order to: - present arguments - make judgements - draw conclusions.
