This specification offer an issues-based approach to studying geography, enabling students to explore and evaluate contemporary geographical questions and issues such as the consequences of globalisation, responses to hazards, water insecurity and climate change. It provides a balance between your own physical, human and or environmental interests, and key geographical topics that provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to ready you for further study in higher education - or for employment. A-level subjects will require a high Grade 5/Grade B results as a minimum if studied at GCSE Grade 5 in Geography.
Assessments are carried out through the year culminating in the End of Year 12 exam which synoptically covers the content from Paper 1 and 2. Paper 1: Physical (105 marks) - 2hrs 30mins. Paper 2: Human (105 marks) - 2hrs 30 mins. Paper 3: Synoptic (75 marks) - 2hrs 30mins. Geographical Investigation (60 marks) = 20% of total grade.
