The world today is full of visual messages, whether they be adverts, logos, signs or packages.. the list is endless. The course is split into three stages: • Skills building – Students are taught a wide range of design skills, using both traditional and digital materials and techniques. Mini projects including Brand Identity, Adobe Photoshop, Text and Typography and Developing ideas from Creative photography are all covered in the first half of Year 12. • Personal Investigation – Students design and complete their own project, which focuses on a theme or aspect of Graphic Design. Most of the teaching at this stage is delivered through individual tutorials and mini workshops, which help to direct students along their chosen pathway. Examples of past projects include; Digital illustration, Promotional graphics for computer games and Sports events, Fashion magazine covers, Aquarium posters, Fast food and cosmetics branding. • Exam – Students choose a question from the exam paper and over a period of eight weeks complete a project in lessons and homework time. They will receive advice from their teachers, who will guide and support them throughout the program of study and help prepare them for the completion of final designs during an invigilated studio session. Examples of past projects include; Training shoe design, Branding for an Indian restaurant, Action film posters, Children’s story books.
