Course summary

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? This course is for students who are academically minded and have a real interest in Sport and Fitness and want to further their understanding of the physiological aspects such as the human body; want a deeper understanding of Health and Fitness Training and a clearer understanding of the Sports Industry. This subject is a practical, work related course. You will learn by completing practical sessions; internally assessed assignments; tasks tackling everyday issues from pre- release material and through an externally assessed written examination. The core units studied are: - Anatomy and Physiology - Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well Being - Professional Development in the Sport Industry - Sports Leadership - Practical Sport In addition to this, the units below are a sample of some of the optional units you could study: - Sports Psychology - Application of Fitness Testing - Research Methods in Sport - Sport Event Organization WHERE NEXT - POSSIBLE CAREER PROGRESSION? This course will provide students with the necessary skills to enter higher education as part of a programmed of study, which includes other vocational or general subjects such as other BTEC Nationals or A Levels. It will also give students a base of knowledge to enter the sporting industry: within the areas of sport education, coaching, sports therapies, fitness instruction and/or teaching physical education.

Entry requirements

Students must have achieved a minimum of five GCSEs grades 9-5 or the equivalent, including a grade 5 in GCSE English and a grade 5 in GCSE Combined Science or GCSE Biology. It is also recommended that students have represented the College in at least one sports team.

How you'll be assessed

There are three different ways the course is assessed: ASSIGNMENTS - this is where students complete a series of tasks set in a work-related scenario which is set and marked by The Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust. TASKS - students complete in controlled conditions, a task tackling an everyday challenge; some tasks also draw on pre-released information – this is set and externally marked by Pearson. WRITTEN EXAMINATIONS - Students draw on essential information to create a written answers to short and long answer questions in test conditions - this is set and externally marked by Pearson.
