Applied Science is a vocational programme designed for progression into science based higher education or career development. The course allows you to cover the fundamentals of science such as cell biology, chemical reactions and laboratory techniques. WHAT WILL I STUDY? - A range of biological, chemistry and physics based subjects which include human physiology, microbiology, genetics and genetic engineering, astronomy and medical physics. - You will gain a deep understanding of scientific theory and skills, coupled with experimental techniques. - Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of biology and chemistry experimental work, and will also learn how to work safely within a laboratory environment. - You will use Maths and statistics to analyse experimental data.
Either - Four GCSE grades 9-4, including a minimum grade 5 in Maths and Science Or - Level 2 Diploma at Merit or Distinction and a minimum GCSE grade 5 in Maths and Science
After the delivery of each unit of the course, you will be issued with an assignment, which covers pass, merit and distinction criteria. There will also be external exams in January with the possibility of resitting in May
