During the course you will: • Develop your understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes • Develop abilities to reason logically and construct mathematical proofs • Understand the relationship between ‘real world’ problems and mathematical models • Acquire the skills to use technology such as calculators and computers efficiently • Develop an understanding of how different areas of mathematics can be connected • Use mathematics as an effective means of communication A Level Mathematics includes: • Pure Mathematics including: Algebra, Sequences and Series, Coordinate Geometry, Differentiation, Integration, Trigonometry and Exponentials, Functions and Graphs of Functions, Numerical Methods, Exponentials and Log Functions, Further Trigonometry, Further Differentiation, Vectors, Binomial expansion and Further Integration • Mechanics and Statistics Including: Representation of data, Probability, Correlation, Regression, Discrete Random Variables, Normal Distribution, Binomial and Poisson Distribution, Normal Approximations, Hypothesis Testing, Populations and Samples, Kinematics and Dynamics, Forces, Vectors, Moments, Centre of Mass, Work-Energy principle, Collisions, Statics of Rigid Bodies
Students are expected to have gained 5 good pass grades at GCSE, including grade 6+ in Maths GCSE.
Papers 1 and 2: Pure Mathematics (each has a 1/3 weighting) Paper 3: Mechanics and Statistics (this paper has a 1/3 weighting)
