WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? This course is designed as specialist qualifications for students who have a clear view of their future career in Art and Design or are seeking progression to higher education. COURSE CONTENT - The core units studied are: - Visual Recording and Communication - Critical and Contextual Studies in Art and Design - The Creative Process In addition to this, the units below are a sample of some of the optional units you could study: - Developing an Art and Design Portfolio - Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design - Managing a Client Brief - Developing and Realizing Creative Intentions WHERE NEXT - POSSIBLE CAREER PROGRESSION? There are many options available to school leavers: further education, vocational degrees and apprenticeships and jobs that offer workplace learning. If you are not sure about the path you wish to take, the flexibility of BTEC Art and Design makes it a good choice, as it offers useful practical experience as well as a recognized qualification.

As published by the school
Students must have achieved a minimum of five GCSEs grades 9-5 or the equivalent, including a grade 4 in GCSE English and a grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics. Students who have not studied BTEC Art and Design before will be required to submit a portfolio which will be assessed upon entry.

Assessment
The new BTEC Nationals in Media use a combination of assessment styles to give students the confidence to apply their knowledge and succeed in the workplace. Students will also have the study skills to continue learning throughout their career. There are two different ways the course is assessed as of 2016: ASSIGNMENTS - this is where students complete a series of tasks set in a work-related scenario which is set and marked by The Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust. TASKS - students complete in controlled conditions, some tasks are set and externally marked by Pearson.
